Anscension to Throne


  • Soas III was proclaimed the Sultan on 6 June 1950 as 28th Sultan.
  • The coronation took place at Lapau on 31 May 1951.
  • The guests present during the coronation ceremony were Malcolm MacDonald, Sir Ralph Hone and Sir Anthony Abell.
  • During this ceremony, SOAS III was awarded the medal of Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG).
  • In 1953, when SOAS III visited London, he was awarded the Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (KCMG), which gave him the title "Sir".
  • On his ascension to the throne, SOAS III set out to work for an improved standard of living for all his pepole.
  • His determination had brought Brunei to international attention and recognition. This earned him the title "The Architect of Modern Brunei."
